“I feel the need…
the need, for speed!”
Who could forget?
always pushing the envelope.
for one more fly by.
Sometimes I feel like that.
Like I can do anything.
A state of mind,
telling me that I can…
I believe we all have a piece of Maverick inside.
Somewhere, on some occasions,
at just the right moment…
you’ve felt that push,
when you just want to push back.
And not be told what to do.
Never say, “CAN’T”
Just the other day, I was heading down the highway.
It was a sunny, light traffic morning and knowing the speed limit was 75 mph,
I felt at liberty to be driving all 75 of them.
I had my music playing and, yes… I was singing…
by myself, in the car.
Because, rarely do I sing if anyone else is in hearing range… for good reason.
As I approached my exit, still feeling confident, I saw no hazards,
and began to slow down for the access road.
Suddenly, a truck appeared on my right side.
I had checked.
He came up fast…
out of nowhere.
Not worried at first, I knew I had the right-of-way.
Then I realized, he simply had no intention of yielding to me…
letting me in “his” lane.
His speed matching mine, it was obvious, it was either, him or me.
For my safety, I slowed considerably,
and pulled my car behind his before the exit ramp ceased to exist.
Even though I KNEW it was not legally my obligation, I CHOSE to give in.
And I heard one simple word in my spirit…
And this thought filled me…
God is at work, moving around us all the time.
Often, He moves faster than we realize.
We need to be listening and looking for Him,
around us, in us, and through us.
And, we need to be ready to YIELD.
And since that morning,
I haven’t been able to release this word from my heart, mind or spirit.
When we learn to drive, YIELD, simply means…
to give the right-of-way.
And sometimes, if the situation requires such, we will need to stop.
The description of the street sign above,
also denotes the red reflective border,
indicating the possibility of a full stop.
It is not a yellow yield… meaning to slow down.
Nor is it, as some people perceive a yellow light,
between the red and green…
intended to signal the need to speed up,
getting their own way.
When driving, YIELD, means to surrender one’s “right to go first.”
To relinquish first place.
To realize that the other driver has preference, priority, and protection.
Amazingly, this YIELD occurs in the spiritual realm around us…
all the time.
Yet so many of us remain focused on the now…
We spend so much of our life
trying to squeeze all we can out of each day,
that we fail to grasp the greater picture God has for us.
He is moving in and around our lives
and wants us to be a part of that movement.
He wants us to slow down so we don’t miss it.
He wants us…
I heard a statistic in church last week,
that 87% of Christians live out their lives in a state of “less than.”
They fail to reach the full potential and purpose
that God has planned for them, simply because they get stuck.
I don’t want to live a life like that.
I want to LIVE in the 13%!.
I believe that Jesus died for me to live in the 13.
I believe that each of us has a purpose, to live fuller and larger lives.
But in order to see that purpose,
I need to understand the YIELD.
And so I looked first at one of the best known, most quoted verses…
For God so loved the world that he GAVE his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
the word GAVE in Greek
has the same humble meaning…
Greek: didómi (did’-o-mee)
Original Greek: δίδωμι
God SO loved the world that He YIELDED…
His one and only Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish
but have eternal life.
God first loved.
And being the Creator,
He chose to YIELD.
living His life,
humbly here on this earth…
could have done so as a Maverick.
and gave His life,
so that we could be forgiven.
He YIELDED so that we would be
and His protected.
If only we will YIELD,
It only requires that you BELIEVE.
And the YIELD is amazing.
If this challenged you,
resonated with you,
moved in your spirit…
I ask you, humbly to share this post.
Please do not “like” it,
but rather plant it like a seed given by God,
and watch the YIELD.
